I told my best friend i love her and now it seems like she's distancing herself from me.?

I told my best friend that i have loved her for the past 4 years. (we just graduated high school.) she knows everything about me. She knew i liked her, but not love. that kind of freaked her out. I told her i wanted to stay being best friends, but i felt like she should know how i really felt. now it seems like shes freaked out a bit (which she said to me), and she doesn't give me definitive answers when i ask if she wants to hang out with me. she also keeps our conversations short. Is it possible shes trying to distance herself from me so i dont get hurt more? I dont know what i should do. should i leave her alone? We always planned on staying in each others lives forever. Right now im fighting just to keep our friendship alive through the summer so we dont go off to college as strangers.
