Clicking sounds from my speakers and no sound from my headphone jack?

I plugged a 3.5mm jack into the microphone connection into my laptop with a very loud audio source and my laptops speakers started clicking... Now they don't work and only click the odd time, and the headphone jack does nothing :/ Im not sure if my speakers are f**ked or whether its my soundcard... The laptop is running perfectly... Please please please help :/
